About the Role

The Occupational Therapist will work within the First Intervention Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT), providing intake, assessment, and individual/group support and therapy to adults with severe and persistent mental health conditions. The role involves collaborating with clients, families, and the team to coordinate treatment, rehabilitation, and support, focusing on psychosocial interventions and enabling clients to maintain and develop appropriate functioning and roles. A key aspect includes facilitating client connections to supported education and employment opportunities.

Responsibilities

Provide intake, assessment, and individual and group support and therapy to adults with severe and persistent mental health conditions.
Collaborate with clients, families, and the team to assess, plan, develop, coordinate, and provide treatment, rehabilitation, and support.
Utilize and support psychosocial interventions to enable clients to maintain and develop appropriate functioning and roles.
Facilitate client connections and involvement in supported education and employment opportunities.
Conduct assessments for individuals experiencing mental health challenges and work with their families.
Develop and facilitate treatment groups.
Participate in regular in-service education in safety programs and practices.

Requirements

Masters in Occupational Therapy, or equivalent, required.
Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) in good standing.
Demonstrated knowledge of COTO Standards of Practice.
Minimum 2 years of recent mental health service provision experience.
Experience working in a community setting.
Experience in developing and facilitating treatment groups.
Understanding of relevant legislation, such as the Mental Health Act and PHIPA.
Well-developed skills in conducting assessment for those experiencing mental health challenges and experience working with their families.
Knowledge of community resources and recovery model principles and trauma informed care.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Commitment to customer service when dealing with patients, colleagues, volunteers, and the public.
Demonstrates values consistent with SHN′s Code of Conduct.
Commitment to fostering a healthy and positive work environment in accordance with Health & Safety policy and legislation.
Understanding of and commitment to SHN's comprehensive safety programs and practices.
Excellent work performance and attendance record.
G Drivers license and access to a vehicle.
