About the Role

The Toronto office of Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG), Canada’s leading, innovative and client-focused law firm, is seeking an Associate – Disputes. The successful candidate can expect to develop well-rounded advocacy skills in commercial disputes.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with complex trials and arbitrations.
  • Arguing motions and applications, and attending other court hearings such as pre-trial and case conferences.
  • Conducting examinations for discovery and witness preparation.
  • Drafting pleadings, motions, facta, affidavits and other court materials.
  • Conducting legal research and prepare legal opinions.
  • Advising clients on disputes risk, strategy and dispute resolution options.

Requirements

  • 1 – 4 years experience.
  • Good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Experience in commercial disputes, including but not limited to contractual disputes, commercial arbitration, banking litigation, shareholder disputes, proceedings for injunctive relief, competition litigation, and real estate disputes.
