About the Role

As a Senior Applied AI Engineer at Oxford Dynamics, you will build and ship agentic AI systems in production, designing multi-agent pipelines, reasoning and retrieval, model integration, and the infrastructure to deploy them. This is a builder's role focused on designing and implementing systems, taking technical ownership, and making systems-level design decisions to ensure reliability and trust in demanding production environments.

Responsibilities

  • Build multi-agent AI systems from the ground up, using frameworks like LangGraph or Haystack, and developing underlying orchestration, state, and tool-calling infrastructure.
  • Engineer for production by writing clean, tested, maintainable code and making sound systems-level decisions, prioritizing reliability, latency, and failure behavior.
  • Integrate large language and vision-language models into reasoning, search, summarization, and task-execution pipelines, building necessary retrieval, memory, and guardrails.
  • Deploy systems into cloud, on-premises, and offline environments, engineering for specific security and reliability constraints.
  • Build production pipelines from data ingestion through to inference, owning the entire process.
  • Implement evaluation, observability, and guardrails to demonstrate system behavior, agent performance, model performance, and failure modes.
  • Act as a technical authority for agentic AI, taking ownership of workstreams, defining design patterns, and setting direction for other engineers, ensuring maintainable systems and documentation.

Requirements

  • Significant professional software engineering experience (typically 6+ years), including several years building LLM-based or agentic systems, with a demonstrable track record as a senior or lead engineer.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals, including writing clean, tested, production-grade code and making sound systems-level design decisions.
  • Commercial experience building and owning multi-agent or agentic AI systems in production.
  • Strong Python skills, with hands-on experience building on LLM frameworks (LangGraph, LangChain, Haystack, or similar) and the ability to work below the framework level.
  • Experience designing and deploying AI/ML systems into real production environments.
  • Solid understanding of the engineering around models, including inference, latency, performance, data pipelines, state, memory, and tool/function calling.
  • Hands-on experience building and querying search and retrieval over large multi-modal datasets (3TB+ of text, imagery, telemetry, sensor data).
  • Fluency with Docker, Git, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
  • Understanding of secure deployment patterns (air-gapped, on-premises, sovereign cloud).
  • A builder's mindset, capable of shipping dependable systems and explaining them clearly.
  • Senior technical ownership, including end-to-end delivery, taking ownership of workstreams, setting direction, and ensuring disciplined documentation and knowledge transfer.
