About the Role
Goodwill Store Associates are trained on all non-management aspects of store operations, assisting with receiving and processing donations, completing sales transactions, displaying merchandise, and maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
Responsibilities
- Sort, price, and display quality merchandise for sale.
- Discard unsellable merchandise appropriately.
- Maximize used goods processing through proper sorting, preparing, and pricing.
- Complete pulls according to the store rotation schedule.
- Provide quality customer service in a timely and courteous manner.
- Assist with maintaining sales floor appearance, cleanliness, and shopping environment.
- Assist with general light maintenance on the building exterior and parking lot.
- Assist shoppers on the sales floor in locating and selecting merchandise.
- Complete sales transactions on the POS system with accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Accept donations from donors, greet them, and offer receipts.
- Assist shoppers by carrying larger, heavier items to their vehicles.
- Demonstrate good judgment at the cash wrap to protect agency assets.
- Assist in maintaining the store and premises to be clean and free of safety hazards.
- Adhere to all safety, health, and emergency procedures.
- Utilize designated staging areas and keep aisles clear for emergency exits.
- Secure sharp objects and handle breakable objects carefully.
- Utilize required PPE when completing assigned tasks.
- Spread ice melt and shovel sidewalks, loading docks, and donor areas during inclement weather.
- Report observations or suspicions of theft and other wrongdoing.
- Assist with proper loading/unloading of trucks and documentation for internal transfers.
- Perform other related essential duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred, not required.
- One to three months of related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to communicate with customers in one-on-one situations.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
- Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
- Ability to operate hand truck, straddle stacker, electric pallet jack, or other material handling equipment.
- Regularly required to stand and use hands.
- Frequently required to walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
- Regularly push crates (on wheels) that may weigh up to 600 pounds.
- Assist customers when unloading donations and carrying purchases to their vehicles.
- Assist customers with handling large and heavy items such as furniture and appliances.
- Place large objects on the sales floor for display or in a crate or cart for disposal.
- Seek assistance from additional staff when lifting large/heavy objects and apply proper lifting techniques.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
- Protective eyewear must be worn at all times while preparing cleaning solution and dispensing fluid.
- Protective gloves (cloth/leather) and eyewear must be worn at all times while using push-stick with trash compactor.
- Protective gloves must be worn when handling pallets and boards to prevent puncture or laceration.
- Occasionally exposed to wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high/precarious places, fumes/airborne particles, toxic/caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
