About the Role

Navan is seeking a Senior Android Engineer to design, build, and enhance its mobile applications within the business expense management sector. This role involves collaborating with an international team to develop new features and improve the product, focusing on delivering high-quality work, leading complex projects, and contributing to technical direction.

Responsibilities

Design, build, and ship Android features in a large production app
Contribute to Android infrastructure to ensure fast and reliable delivery
Review code, provide feedback to other developers, and write technical documentation
Lead development initiatives by introducing new technologies or improving existing code, practices, or architecture
Participate in technology, design, and product direction decisions with peers and stakeholders
Triage product and application issues and respond quickly to customer problems

Requirements

5+ years of experience developing high-quality Android applications
Strong understanding of the full app development lifecycle
Proficiency in Kotlin and building user interfaces with Jetpack Compose
Solid understanding of the Android SDK, including app components and their integration
Understanding of the Android OS lifecycle, including notifications, deep links, battery modes, network state, data persistence, and permissions
Experience with performance tuning and optimization
Experience with Gradle builds and modules
Strong understanding of concurrency practices and experience with coroutines
Capability to make architectural judgment calls based on data and requirements
Working knowledge of MVVM and standard multi-tier architecture
Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, and publishing to the Play Store
Solid foundation in data structures and algorithms, focused on testable, scalable, and maintainable code
Experience using AI / LLM tools in development, maintaining quality, review standards, and security
Experience with modern Android frameworks like Dagger/Hilt and OkHttp/Retrofit
Experience building automated test suites with Espresso/kakao, understanding unit, integration, and UI tests
Familiarity with accessibility best practices for mobile applications
Familiarity with OAuth, mobile app authentication, and data safety
Familiarity with Material Design principles, mobile UX practices, and patterns
