About the Role
Being an engineer at Klarna means building and owning the systems that move money for millions of people. Your team and focus can change as the business changes. This is a hands-on role where you'll write code, make architecture calls, and influence through the quality of your work and collaboration with other engineers. We are looking for someone with expertise that can introduce new capabilities and unlock new possibilities for the company.
Responsibilities
- Make sound, defensible technical decisions and articulate the reasoning behind them.
- Consider the wider architecture, failure propagation, performance under load, and downstream impact of technical choices.
- Tie technical decisions to business outcomes and size solutions appropriately.
- Design for the constraints of a regulated bank, including reliability, auditability, and controls.
- Mentor engineers and elevate the technical standards across teams.
- Set the standard for AI usage in everyday practice as a working method.
Requirements
- Possess expertise that Klarna does not currently have, capable of unlocking new possibilities.
- Experience building and operating systems with high reliability and performance demands at scale, ideally in Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- Ability to make trade-offs and articulate alternative approaches.
- Optimize for business outcomes over engineering elegance.
- Clearly explain complex systems to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Lead through work and influence initiatives across teams without formal authority.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and sharing experiences from past incidents or designs that failed in production.
- Provide a CV in English detailing what you built, its impact, and its cost.
