About the Role
Eight Sleep is seeking a hands-on, highly-organized, and detail-oriented Research Associate to manage research studies, including product validation, prototype testing, new feature development, and external validation studies. This role involves hands-on data collection, preparing study operations, and communicating with subjects to ensure efficient and high-quality study completion while adhering to human research practices. The position reports to the Senior Director of Science & Clinical Research and offers potential for growth in experimental design, scientific writing, sensor engineering, and data analysis.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, screen, and schedule subjects for internal studies.
- Build Eight Sleep’s beta tester group and lab tester databases for improved efficiencies and workflows.
- Manage the day-to-day operation of research studies, including IRB submissions, recruitment, scheduling, reminder emails and calls, and equipment ordering.
- Spend 80-90% of time collecting data to meet product decision deadlines.
- Handle study setup and respond to email/phone inquiries between 6-9 PM on weeknights during sleep studies.
- Monitor data over weekends during sleep studies.
- Maintain accurate study records and regulatory documentation in accordance with IRB and HIPAA guidelines.
- Perform quality assurance of all collected data to ensure completeness and accuracy.
- Follow up with subjects to resolve problems, address queries, or clarify data collected.
Requirements
- 1+ years of experience running human factors research, user testing, or in-person human research studies.
- Experience with prototype hardware, software, Google Suite, and command line tools.
- Basic understanding of hardware, software, and firmware for data collection purposes.
- Superior communication skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to quickly adapt to changes.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends for study setup and checks.
- Willingness to travel locally to users’ houses to set up the Pod for testing (must have a car).
- Ability to lift approximately 25 pounds and change the Pod cover and sheets on a mattress.
