About the Role
SWARCO UK & Ireland is seeking a Production Assembler for their Melsonby factory. This hands-on role involves assembling, wiring, testing, and preparing a range of SWARCO products and equipment according to technical drawings and specifications, ensuring high-quality output and safe, efficient operations.
Responsibilities
- Assembling electrical, electronic, and mechanical products and equipment.
- Preparing cables, connectors, and wiring looms.
- Carrying out cabinet wiring and fitting electrical components, including transformers.
- Assembling traffic signal controllers, variable message signs, enclosures, and associated equipment.
- Assembling mechanical components, including prisms and trailers.
- Reading and following technical drawings, specifications, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and kit lists.
- Carrying out basic functional testing of completed products.
- Using hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Supporting PCB assembly/repair and basic mechanical assembly activities.
- Preparing and fitting sign faces and assembling MDU units.
- Carrying out self-quality checks and reporting any issues or non-conformances.
- Ensuring work is completed safely and in line with SWARCO's Health & Safety procedures.
- Maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient working environment in line with 5S principles.
- Supporting continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives.
- Assisting with the packing and preparation of finished products for dispatch.
- Moving between different manufacturing cells depending on production requirements.
- Supporting general factory improvement activities.
Requirements
- Practical, reliable, and detail-focused with the ability to follow technical instructions and take pride in delivering quality work.
- Experience of working in an electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, or manufacturing environment.
- Relevant electrical, mechanical, or manufacturing training or qualification.
- Ability to read and follow technical drawings, specifications, BOMs, or similar documentation.
- Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
- Awareness of quality and safe working practices.
- Ability to use hand tools and, ideally, power tools.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Reliable and proactive approach to work.
- Flexibility to manage changing workloads and priorities.
- Experience working with traffic signal controllers, variable message signs, or similar equipment (desirable).
- Previous experience of product testing (desirable).
- Experience with PCB assembly or repair (desirable).
- Experience working within a 5S or continuous improvement environment (desirable).
- Must have the right to work in the UK.
