About the Role

KPMG Law's Tax Dispute Resolution and Controversy team seeks experienced lawyers to manage and resolve tax disputes, maintaining effective relationships with revenue authorities. This role offers the opportunity to advise a broad range of clients on domestic and cross-border tax issues in a rapidly changing world.

Responsibilities

  • Work with clients in preparing for and resolving risk reviews, audits, and disputes with the ATO, AusIndustry, and State/Territory revenue authorities.
  • Handle complex ATO audits, prepare objections, brief counsel, and advise clients on ATO Risk Reviews, Audits, Independent Reviews, and tax litigation.
  • Develop written and oral advocacy skills by working with diverse clients and specialists across KPMG Law and KPMG.
  • Provide legal advice, including taxation law and administrative law.
  • Collaborate with other specialist groups across KPMG’s Deals, Tax & Legal practice in Australia and internationally.
  • Work across all jurisdictions with partners and team members from other states.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in corporate tax, international tax, tax law, and/or tax dispute resolution and controversy in a Big 4 professional services firm, a law firm, or the Australian Taxation Office.
  • Prior Big 4 experience is viewed favorably.
  • Ability to deliver fully integrated solutions and make decisions to best meet client needs.
  • Collaborate across KPMG’s Tax & Legal practice and the firm.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement in service delivery and providing value-add solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal, influencing, and project management skills.
  • Ability to motivate and work as part of a high-performing team.
  • Ability to develop strong client relations and proactively deepen those relationships.
  • Commitment to support firm and practice training by providing knowledge.
  • An honest and ethical approach to business.
  • Australian and/or other Commonwealth country legal experience.
