About the Role
Compassionately facilitates funeral arrangement discussions, presides over services, and ensures compliance with mortuary, health, and vital statistics regulations.
Responsibilities
- Receives or initiates contact with deceased next of kin, obtains necessary information, and schedules arrangement appointments.
- Performs removals or transfers of the deceased while adhering to company standards and ensuring respectful care.
- Facilitates arrangement conferences, discusses available services and merchandise, and promotes funeral, cemetery, and crematory offerings.
- Reviews and authorizes contract revisions for merchandise and services.
- Presides as Master of Ceremonies for visitation, funeral, or graveside services, ensuring professional and caring execution.
- Visually inspects the deceased and services arrangements against contractual agreements and family expectations, initiating corrective actions as needed.
- Interacts with families and guests to fulfill death care requests and obtains leads for pre-need services.
- Performs event planning responsibilities, including resource planning, ordering of music and flowers, and producing memorial products.
- Prepares and cleans event rooms, including setup and post-event cleanup.
- May perform attendant duties such as parking lot attendant, driver, usher, pallbearer, or courier.
- Represents and promotes the location or market at community or charity events.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Takes initiative to discuss assignments, expectations, priorities, and deadlines with the manager.
- Notifies manager of light workload and volunteers for additional tasks.
- Adjusts effectively to new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures.
Requirements
- Graduated from an accredited school or college of mortuary science.
- Current Funeral Director license within the practicing state.
- Valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Industry experience is preferred.
- Ability to build professional and trusting business relations.
- Professional written and verbal communication skills.
- Public speaking skills with the ability to influence and gain consensus.
- Proficient using databases in automated processes.
- Proficient MS Office skills.
- Flexibility of availability may be necessary as services may occur outside of normal business hours.
- Working nights and weekends is frequently necessary.
