About the Role

Schneider Electric is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the conceptualization, design, and development of innovative cooling technologies for data center, AI, HPC, and critical infrastructure applications. This role serves as a technical expert in mechanical design, driving innovation in liquid cooling solutions, heat exchangers, and thermal management. The position involves defining product roadmaps, assessing feasibility, mentoring engineers, and collaborating across teams for product commercialization.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the ideation, conceptualization, and development of innovative cooling systems and technologies for data center applications.
  • Design and develop solutions including Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx), Liquid-to-Liquid Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), Liquid-to-Air Cooling Systems, Fluid Distribution Manifolds, Chillers, Direct-to-Chip Cooling Solutions, and Single-Phase and Two-Phase Liquid Cooling Technologies.
  • Generate and evaluate multiple design concepts using sketches, CAD models, engineering analysis, and prototype development.
  • Drive innovation initiatives that align with market demands, customer requirements, and emerging technologies.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for mechanical and thermal design within the Product Innovation organization.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and designers.
  • Support engineering reviews and ensure adherence to best practices throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Advise leadership on technical feasibility, product architecture, manufacturability, reliability, and cost optimization.
  • Partner closely with Product Management, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Sales teams to develop innovative product solutions.
  • Translate customer and market requirements into practical and scalable engineering designs.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing partners to validate design concepts and support commercialization efforts.
  • Contribute to technology and product roadmaps by identifying future opportunities and emerging cooling technologies.
  • Stay current on advancements in data center cooling, AI infrastructure, thermal management, and liquid cooling technologies.
  • Explore and evaluate emerging technologies including immersion cooling and advanced two-phase cooling systems.
  • Support intellectual property development through innovative engineering concepts and patentable designs.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of mechanical design and product development experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in data center cooling, thermal management systems, or related high-performance cooling technologies.
  • Proven track record of developing complex engineering concepts and commercialized product designs.
  • Experience leading cross-functional engineering programs from concept to launch.
  • Extensive experience with structural mechanical design of data center cooling products.
  • Experience selecting and integrating valves, hoses, plumbing components, structural materials, thermal interface materials, cabling and connectors, and electromechanical components.
  • Advanced proficiency with SolidWorks, SolidWorks PDM, Fusion 360, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office 365, Windows 10 and Windows 11.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE TC 9.9, Telcordia Standards, UL Standards, International Product Safety Standards, FCC Regulations, EMC Compliance Requirements, RoHS and WEEE Environmental Standards.
  • Strong visualization skills for creating and interpreting 2D drawings and 3D models.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to resolve complex technical challenges through innovative engineering solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across functions and organizations.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively collaborating with diverse teams.

  • Travel may be required up to 15% based on business needs.
  • Ability to work in an office, laboratory, and manufacturing environment.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to navigate stairs and manufacturing facilities as required.
  • Ability to participate in site visits, product testing, and customer engagements.
