About the Role
The Export Team Leader is responsible for the distribution of export documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance, and leading subordinate staff. This role involves daily operations such as customs clearance, shipping, labeling, and distribution of cargo according to customer requirements, as well as direct customer communication.
Responsibilities
- Distribute export documents according to supervisor instructions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Lead subordinate staff in daily operations including customs clearance, shipping, labeling, and cargo distribution.
- Communicate directly with customers on a daily basis.
- Manage assigned team members, including workload distribution, training, and performance monitoring.
- Ensure team members are aware of workload to maintain high-quality performance.
- Manage team coverage during absences and holidays.
- Distribute documents and redirect communications to the correct team members.
- Organize and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for team accounts.
- Communicate with overseas branches, customers, vendors, export authorities, agencies, and sales.
- Ensure all staff comply with company policies and training.
- Conduct general staff training with supervisor assistance.
- Handle other job assignments as determined by the direct supervisor.
Requirements
- Demonstrate leadership skills.
- 3+ years of department or freight forwarding industry experience.
- Strong teamwork skills and inclination.
- Good communication skills, including listening and providing/receiving feedback.
- Analytical skills with familiarity in logistics and planning concepts.
- Knowledge of international commerce (Incoterm, methods, customs regulations).
- Knowledge of Consolidator system.
- Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT), State, Federal, and Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) regulations is desirable.
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills.
- Strong computer skills in PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
- Bilingual English/Japanese is a plus.
- Must be able to perform sedentary office work involving sitting, typing, filing, and phone conversations.
