About the Role
The Youth Law Center (YLC) invites current 1L and 2L students to apply for a summer legal internship. This role offers an opportunity to learn about systemic change in child welfare and juvenile justice, contribute to advocacy projects, and develop writing samples. Interns will work with attorneys on various projects and receive training through YLC's summer seminar series.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to YLC's ongoing and emerging advocacy projects.
- Develop at least one strong writing sample for future applications.
- Participate in YLC team meetings, strategic advocacy meetings, and workgroups.
- Complete substantial research and writing projects.
- Potentially observe legislative hearings and visit juvenile facilities.
Requirements
- Excellent research and writing skills.
- Ability to stay directed and focused in a fully remote work environment.
- Experience and/or interest in child and youth advocacy.
- Desire to explore nonprofit legal aid and systemic advocacy environments.
- Students with personal, lived experience in child welfare and juvenile justice systems are particularly encouraged to apply.
- Applicants from historically marginalized identities disproportionately represented in child welfare and juvenile justice systems are encouraged to apply.
