About the Role
Spence-Chapin is seeking an experienced Foundation Relations and Grants Manager to own a fast-moving portfolio of grants, manage day-to-day operations, and support the Senior Director and Development team. The successful candidate understands tight deadlines and can work with internal and external partners.
Responsibilities
- Manage all stages of the grant lifecycle, including identifying prospects, preparing outreach, and securing and preparing for meetings.
- Draft and write letters of inquiry and proposals.
- Manage the grant upon award, including all attendant operational work.
- Research and review existing and prospective funders, identify their priorities and previous grantmaking, and make connections to Spence-Chapin’s program priorities.
- Contribute ideas for potential funding pitches.
- Partner with the finance department and relevant program teams to develop proposal budgets and ensure timely, complete financial reporting to donors.
- Track payments of grants and awards, including execution of payment requests.
- Support the Senior Director in portfolio support, maintaining grants data integrity in Raiser’s Edge, database and measuring progress, maintaining calendars, and developing grants management tools.
- Provide as-needed portfolio and Development department support.
- Perform other responsibilities as directed by the Senior Director.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required (or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience).
- Minimum of 3 years of foundations and grants experience.
Skills
- Proficiency with Raiser's Edge or a comparable CRM.
- Experience with grant writing and foundation management.
- Experience with pulling reports and analyzing data to improve strategies.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience with donor foundation research software such as DonorSearch, Foundation Center, or Wealth Engine.
- Familiarity with tools such as iWave, RelSci, and Foundation Directory Online.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with experience editing and copy-editing.
- Superb organizational and process management skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, and ability to think creatively and collaboratively.
- Formidable work ethic and high energy level, with ability to multitask effectively.
- Exemplary team player with professional demeanor and ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated success grant writing, funder research and project management.
- Experience with day-to-day operations.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines.
