About the Role

As an Automation Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain scripts, workflows, and tools to reduce manual IT work and solve complex problems. You will also administer and support end-user, identity, and collaboration platforms, ensuring automation is grounded in hands-on system ownership. You will partner with IT teams to identify automation opportunities, reduce risk, and free up capacity, while being accountable for the reliability of your automation.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain automation scripts and workflows (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash) to streamline IT service delivery, endpoint provisioning, and systems administration.
  • Design, build, and own automated workflows for user lifecycle, device provisioning, and identity lifecycle using Rithum's platforms (Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Jamf) and API/webhook integrations.
  • Instrument automations with logging and alerting for auditability and measurability, tracking hours saved and errors reduced.
  • Translate manual IT operations processes into reliable, documented, automated solutions, adapting existing scripts and tools.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate script development, troubleshoot automation failures, and draft technical documentation, verifying outputs before production application.
  • Administer, configure, and monitor end-user and identity platforms (Active Directory, Okta, Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, Jamf, Tanium), escalating complex integration decisions.
  • Administer and support collaboration and productivity platforms (Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Slack, Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
  • Resolve end-user computing issues across Windows and macOS, owning requests end-to-end and escalating critical incidents.
  • Document technical solutions accurately, securely, and in alignment with corporate IT and Information Security standards.
  • Partner with Service Desk, Infrastructure Engineering, and Information Security teams to identify manual tasks suitable for automation.
  • Collaborate with partner teams to test, deploy, and monitor automation workflows, tailoring communication to different audiences.
  • Provide guidance to Service Desk teammates on scripting fundamentals and automation best practices.
  • Document automation workflows, runbooks, and troubleshooting guides for supportability and repeatability.
  • Own the automation knowledge base, keeping runbooks and integration notes current.
  • Apply lessons learned from prior automation efforts to improve reliability and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Monitor the performance and reliability of deployed automations, escalating and resolving issues.
  • Use AI as a starting point for recurring IT work, including configuration research, scripting, troubleshooting, documentation, and solution design.
  • Validate AI-generated scripts, configurations, and recommendations in non-production environments.
  • Share effective AI-assisted approaches and prompts with teammates.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for automation and AI application in Business Technology workflows.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in IT systems administration, service desk operations, or a related technical role.
  • Hands-on experience writing and maintaining automation scripts (e.g., PowerShell, Python, Bash, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience administering or supporting enterprise identity, collaboration, and productivity platforms (Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID, Okta, Microsoft 365, Slack, Zoom, or Microsoft Teams).
  • Demonstrated experience adapting or troubleshooting existing automation, scripts, or workflows for moderately complex technical issues.
  • Experience using AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Claude) to improve productivity.
  • Demonstrated hands-on use of AI coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to build, ship, or automate a working solution.
  • Located in the United States Central or Mountain time zone, with working hours aligned to that time zone.
  • Handle escalations requiring cross-team coordination.
