About the Role

Eckert Seamans, a national law firm with over 65 years of success, seeks a Mass Tort Paralegal for its New York City office. The role is crucial for supporting clients with proactive, solution-oriented business and litigation counsel.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of legal documents such as depositions and pleadings
  • File documents with courts
  • Summarize cases and prepare reports for attorneys
  • Organization and management of documents, including managing spreadsheets and retrieval systems
  • Act as liaison among various parties including court for scheduling and sharing information
  • Coordinate the collection, review and production of documents and respond to discovery requests
  • Assist with conducting research and investigating facts
  • Assist with trial preparation including assembly of exhibits, witness binders and appendices for depositions and court filings
  • Coordination of large-scale document jobs with Office Services
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Experience in handling asbestos litigation
  • Detail oriented
  • Knowledge of civil litigation procedures
  • Understanding of HIPPA regulations for the purpose of acquiring medical records
  • Sound organizational methods
  • Critical thinking
  • Superb written and oral communication abilities
  • Proficiency with MS Office including Word and Excel
  • Experience with forensic aspects of case preparation
  • Review and summation of medical records
  • Handling subpoenas

  • Proficient in ShareFile and Kroll preferred
  • Minimum two years substantive experience as a paralegal/legal assistant in a law firm setting
  • Experience in Mass Tort will be highly considered
  • Ability to remain stationary for extended periods while performing repetitive tasks such as working at a computer
  • Ability to move throughout the office to attend meetings, access files, collaborate with colleagues, and use standard office equipment
  • Ability to move files, documents, supplies, or materials up to 10 pounds
