About the Role

The Short-Term Power Market Analyst role is based in London and focuses on providing detailed, commercially-focused analysis to maximize returns from wholesale power markets. The analyst will work closely with short-term analysts and power traders, contributing to both operational duties and the strategic development of the team's objectives and models.

Responsibilities

Provide data analytics and risk analysis on short-term power markets to the desk.
Support the Short-Term desk for price forecasts and trading strategies.
Follow Day-Ahead and Week-Ahead optimization shifts.
Communicate time-critical information to traders in London.
Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, including REMIT, through consistent application of defined processes.
Manage the entire lifecycle of applications or models, from research and design to development, implementation, and maintenance.
Take ownership of critical applications and projects autonomously.
Develop fundamental and quantitative models to anticipate market behavior and improve price forecasting.
Automate workflows.
Create data visualizations via PowerBI or web applications.
Improve application robustness by adding unit tests and refactoring unstable functions.
Actively participate in peer reviews of junior analysts to share best practices.
Train junior analysts.

Requirements

Ability to work under pressure, with timeliness, accuracy, and an understanding of wider commercial implications.
Proactive in researching market modeling improvements.
Take initiative to continuously improve existing processes, tools, and models.
Build and develop stochastic or deterministic optimization procedures/models.
Understand the workings of the power market, including power asset management and optimization, and power market coupling algorithms.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and enthusiasm.
Commercial approach to duties.
Flexible approach to problem-solving.
Strong communication skills with confidence to work effectively with power traders and asset managers.
