About the Role

Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada (VLRC) is seeking a professional to assist certified Rehabilitation Specialists in providing vision loss rehabilitation services. This role supports clients in achieving their rehabilitation goals and promotes independence.

Responsibilities

Assist with the implementation of rehabilitation plans and programs under the direction of Rehabilitation Specialists.
Provide input into the planning, implementation, modification, and evaluation of rehabilitative treatment plans in consultation with specialists.
Demonstrate and teach adaptive skills for independent living, including personal management, household management, communication, basic indoor orientation & mobility, and basic technology training.
Assist Specialists with the maintenance and inventory of adaptive devices and demonstrate consumer products and low vision aids.
Monitor and evaluate treatment and care plans, reporting observations and progress to the specialist.
Provide functional direction to clients and collaterals to maximize the rehabilitation process.
Maintain case data and documentation consistent with VLRC Systems and Procedures.
Collaborate with the rehabilitation team in service delivery, coordinate travel schedules, and facilitate program development.
Support and consult with individuals and their families regarding adjustment to vision loss.
Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings.
Promote understanding and awareness of vision health issues through consultation, public education, and in-service training.
Provide timely and creative solutions and recommend process improvements.
Problem-solve creatively and quickly in response to unique individual needs.
Exercise judgment and tact when working with clients and determine when to escalate issues.
Abide by VLRC privacy and security policies.
Exercise good judgment when determining if clients require a referral to other VLRC or external services and communicate with the Specialist.

Willingness to work in a variety of settings (virtually, VLRC clinic, client home, community settings etc.).
Travel will be required.
Clean Criminal Record required.
Criminal Reference Check required for vulnerable populations.
Successful candidate will be required to complete a standard Vulnerable Sector Check.
