About the Role
Peer Support Specialists will engage consumers and provide non-clinical assistance after a crisis has been resolved. Specialists must demonstrate competency in peer-to-peer support before working independently. The 988 Program offers 24/7 mobile community outreach for adults experiencing mental health, substance use, or suicidal emergencies, aiming for de-escalation without law enforcement intervention unless safety is compromised.
Responsibilities
- Take the lead on engagement.
- Conduct non-clinical assistance by providing support to consumers after the initial crisis has been resolved.
- Provide peer-to-peer support.
- Participate in DMHAS approved de-escalation, mental health crisis, substance use crisis, and suicide training.
Requirements
- Must be trained in crisis intervention.
- At least 2 years of continuous recovery from an SMI or SUD diagnosis.
- At least one year of field experience working with community individuals.
- Driver's license must be in good standing, with no recent suspensions or violations of careless/reckless driving or excessive speeding of more than 20 MPH, and no more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years.

- Certification from NAADAC, the Association for Addiction Professionals as a National Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (NCPRSS)
- Certified Wellness Coach certificate
- Community Mental Health Associate certificate
Salary/Compensations
- $18.00 - $20.00 Hourly
- $1.00 shift differential for hours worked 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 a.m.
