About the Role

This field-based role involves investigating, negotiating, evaluating, and appraising vehicle damage claims for repairable and total loss vehicles, ensuring accuracy and compliance while delivering exceptional member service.
Responsibilities
- Evaluates and appraises complex auto physical damage claims using digital tools, adhering to contract terms, corporate guidelines, and state laws.
- Investigates claim damages by communicating with insured parties, internal adjusters, and third parties/vendors, potentially requiring face-to-face interactions.
- Reviews facts of loss and vehicle damage to identify subrogation opportunities and ensures all supporting physical damage documentation is included.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of P&C insurance products, services, contracts, and internal processes for compliance.
- Reviews claims/suppliers for fraud indicators and refers to the Special Investigations Unit if applicable.
- Maintains accurate and current claim file documentation for complex claims.
- Ensures high productivity through effective desk management, timely follow-ups, and accurate repair plan mapping.
- Reviews additional damage from repair facilities to complete supplements or triage for field inspection.
- May serve as a subject matter expert for disputed claims or trials and acts as a resource for team members on escalated issues.
- Partners with vendors and internal business partners to resolve complex claims and may coordinate with external regulatory bodies.
- Proactively informs policyholders about coverage, estimates, valuations, and the claims/repair process.
- Supports workload surges and catastrophe (CAT) response operations, including on-call duties and potential extended work hours.
- May be assigned CAT deployment travel with minimal notice.
- Handles various claim types, including complex ones, and may perform additional duties as needed.
- Ensures business risks are identified, measured, monitored, and controlled according to policies.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma.
- 2 years of auto appraising experience.
- Proficient knowledge of P&C insurance policy contracts and coverages, auto parts distribution process, and claim appraisal process and procedures.
- Advanced working knowledge of estimating losses using CCC or similar estimating platforms.
- Demonstrated written and verbal skills for communication with members, claimants, repair facilities, and stakeholders.
- Acquisition and maintenance of insurance adjuster license within 90 days and 3 attempts.
- May require the ability to operate a company vehicle.
- May require the ability to reach, handle, squat, bend, climb, and kneel to inspect damaged vehicles.
- May require the ability to work outdoors in inclement weather and in body shop/salvage yard environments up to 25% of the time.
- May be required to meet all USAA safe driving requirements, including verification of driving record and possession of a valid driver's license.
