About the Role

Simulation is essential at nearly every level of our stack, from validating kinematics to stress testing new mechanisms. This role owns the software that determines how fast simulation loops run and how accurately simulation predicts hardware performance. You will build our simulation platform as a core product, focusing on environments, models, and fidelity to ensure "it works in sim" is a meaningful statement.

Responsibilities

  • Own the sim stack, including environments, assets, robot models, and associated tooling, ensuring they are current with every hardware revision.
  • Model critical components like actuators, considering torque limits, friction, and thermal behavior, validated against dyno and robot data.
  • Optimize training speed through GPU-parallel environment throughput, profiling, and ensuring experiment reproducibility via determinism and seeding.
  • Develop system-identification pipelines and domain randomization tooling to bridge the gap between simulation and real-world hardware.
  • Implement scenario and regression suites to test controllers and policies in simulation on every code change.
  • Maintain the pipeline for creating simulation-ready assets from CAD and robot descriptions to accurately reflect the physical robot.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience building simulation or robotics software.
  • Deep hands-on experience with at least one modern robotics simulator (e.g., Isaac Lab/Isaac Sim, MuJoCo, Drake).
  • Physics literacy, including knowledge of contact solvers, fabrics solvers, integrators, and friction models, and their limitations.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and C++ with engineering habits that ensure reliability for a research-facing platform.
  • Proven performance skills, including profiling and scaling GPU-parallel workloads, and treating environment throughput as a key feature.
  • Experience comparing simulation results with real-world hardware and iterating on the simulation based on findings.
