About the Role
As a Systems Software Engineer focused on the OS, you will own the OS and IPC layers, including the kernel, scheduling, memory management, user-space drivers, time synchronization, and shared-memory transport. You will also manage system operations like boot, OTA updates, service supervision, crash capture, and health monitoring. Your software is foundational for all other teams and ships on every robot. You will collaborate with electrical, controls, and robotics engineers to bring up new hardware.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement core systems for robotics applications, including networking, IPC, scheduling, synchronization, and resource management.
- Profile, optimize, and understand system performance tradeoffs (CPU, latency, throughput, memory, scheduling).
- Build diagnostics, health monitoring, and fault-handling systems to enhance robot robustness and serviceability.
- Debug issues across hardware, firmware, and robotics software.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience working at the OS level with deep Linux internals (schedulers, memory, filesystems, kernel/userspace boundary).
- Strong proficiency in modern C++ for embedded or real-time systems.
- Strong understanding of Linux systems programming (threading, synchronization, memory management, IPC, scheduling, performance optimization).
- Experience with the embedded Linux stack (U-Boot, device trees, kernel configuration, DMA, Buildroot or Yocto).
- Comfortable with hardware/software debugging, including reading schematics and using tools like gdb and strace.
