About the Role
Exacta Systems, a leader in historical horse racing (HHR) technology and part of the Churchill Downs family, is seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure and Systems Engineer. This role involves hands-on expertise in Linux (Ubuntu), server virtualization, and remote server/network management, with a focus on analyzing, documenting, and recommending new technologies.
Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Ubuntu-based servers, ensuring security and performance.
- Manage and maintain virtualized environments, including provisioning and optimizing VM resources.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and configure servers, NAS systems, and network devices remotely.
- Create, modify, and deploy device configurations across various networking and IT systems.
- Analyze new technologies, test them, document findings, and provide recommendations.
- Be available for occasional travel, sometimes on short notice of 12 to 24 hours, for installs and upgrades.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in system administration and network administration.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex IT environments.
- Experience with remote infrastructure management and network security best practices.
- Ability to independently research, test, and document new technologies.
- Ready to assist company staff with escalation support via a ticketing system.
- Willingness to travel both nationally and internationally on short notice, with some trips requiring a week or more away from home.
