About the Role
As an Embedded Software Engineer, you'll build the software closest to our hardware on a custom-designed compute platform. You will be responsible for MCU firmware, bus protocols, drivers, and board bring-up, transforming new hardware into a reliable platform for the robotics stack.
Responsibilities
- Develop production embedded software using modern C++, including firmware, device drivers, and communication stacks (SPI, I2C, RS-485, CAN/CAN FD, Ethernet, or EtherCAT).
- Bring up new hardware by collaborating with engineers, integrating circuits, and validating system functionality using component datasheets.
- Build real-time systems with deterministic software that meets timing constraints and manages concurrency, resource limitations, and hardware failures.
- Own communication buses like GMSL SerDes links, RS-485, CAN, SPI/I²C, and perform electrical-to-software debugging.
- Systematize hardware bring-up processes, create checklists for manufacturing tests, and ensure smooth transitions from bench testing to mass production.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience developing embedded software on bare-metal, RTOS, or Linux-based platforms, preferably for robotics or complex electromechanical systems.
- Extensive experience in driver development, from datasheet to robust software interface, including initialization, configuration, error handling, diagnostics, and recovery.
- Experience bringing up custom electronics and debugging issues across hardware, firmware, and drivers using schematics, datasheets, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers, and protocol traces.
- Deep understanding of techniques for ensuring real-time responsiveness and throughput in adversarial scenarios.
- Fluency in C and modern C++, with sufficient Python for tooling.
