About the Role
Elmcor Rising Scholars is seeking lead teachers for a 3K/4K early child program funded by DOE and operated by Elmcor Youth & adult Activities. Lead teachers will provide direct education to children in district 29 and embody Elmcor's values and mission in their teaching.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and mentor less experienced teachers.
- Create and maintain a child-oriented, trauma-sensitive atmosphere.
- Ensure developmentally appropriate curriculum for children's educational, physical, and hygienic care.
- Maintain a clean, bright, and safe classroom environment.
- Collaborate with administration and other teachers on children's progress and needs.
- Conduct and develop progress assessments.
- Inform parents about child development and engage them in the educational process.
- Liaise with City agencies including DOE and DOHMH.
- Interact professionally, affectionately, and respectfully with children, families, and colleagues.
- Develop long- and short-term lesson plans based on the Elmcor Rising Scholar curriculum and philosophy.
- Work with Teacher Assistants to develop curriculum for 3- and 4-year-olds.
- Provide stimulating activities for emotional, intellectual, and social development.
- Maintain open communication with families regarding their child's growth and transitions.
- Assess all students using Teaching Strategies Gold.
- Work with parents to increase their understanding of child development.
- Monitor children's physical and emotional well-being.
- Accept supervision.
- Attend staff meetings and training.
- Communicate effectively, including giving and receiving feedback.
- Cooperate professionally as a team member.
- Participate in the quality improvement process.
Requirements
- Knowledge of Article 47-DOHMH and DOE EFQ.
- Experience using Creative Curriculum.
- Time management skills with the ability to run a classroom by established guidelines.
- Ability to communicate and accommodate different audiences (teachers, parents, children).
- Ability to establish and maintain a professional atmosphere.
