About the Role

The Global Incentive Compensation (GIC) team at Salesforce manages sales compensation end-to-end, from plan design to payment administration. The Data Strategy team within GIC owns the foundational data architecture, data modeling, and data-sharing pipelines supporting over $3 billion in annual commissions. This role is for a Senior Technical Data Analyst who will act as a hands-on developer and business translator, transforming data in Snowflake and serving as an operational bridge between upstream business teams and data delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Actively develop, model, and optimize highly aggregated datasets, schemas, and tables in Snowflake Gold and Reporting layers.
  • Transform cleaned, raw data into production-ready semantic models for BI tools and complex ad-hoc requests.
  • Partner with business analysts to run discovery, clarify business logic, and verify data feasibility before SQL development.
  • Independently research unfamiliar data sources, collaborate with external business owners, and establish technical stewardship.
  • Write intermediate SQL views and temporary workarounds in Snowflake to unblock urgent business decisions.
  • Document agile data solutions, ensuring they are clean and maintainable.
  • Identify, translate, and document persistent upstream system and data gaps.
  • Write clear technical specifications and schema requirements for permanent automation.
  • Manage the intake, tracking, and prioritization of incoming data requests.
  • Act as the primary coordinator for the team's delivery queue, setting expectations with stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain comprehensive GIC data dictionaries, technical wikis, and SQL query templates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Systems, Finance, or a related quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Data Analyst, Database Developer, or Technical Business Analyst.
  • Proven track record of transforming data and translating business needs into technical database solutions.
  • Expert-level, hands-on SQL skills.
  • Deep practical experience building database views, designing table schemas, and writing performant joins, CTEs, and window functions in Snowflake (or similar cloud data warehouses).
  • Mastery of running technical discovery, asking critical-thinking questions, and mapping business rules into technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently research unfamiliar data sources, collaborate with external business stewards, and synthesize how external databases connect to team models.
  • Strong organizational skills with experience managing a project queue and setting realistic delivery expectations.
  • Ability to navigate competing priorities across multiple teams.
  • Exceptional ability to explain technical database schemas to business partners and business requirements to technical engineers.
  • Familiarity with Sales Operations, Finance, or Sales Compensation business domains (Preferred).
  • Knowledge of the Salesforce CRM platform and underlying data structures (Products, Opportunities, Accounts, etc.) (Preferred).
  • Familiarity with DBT(data build tool) and Git/version control workflows (Preferred).
