About the Role
Mission Graduates increases the number of K-12 students in San Francisco’s Mission District who are prepared for and complete a college education. The Extended Day Program (EDP) is an award-winning afterschool academic enrichment program serving over 1,000+ students at 8 schools. This role assists in the direct delivery of instruction in a classroom setting with pupils who have moderate to severe impairing conditions as determined by an individualized education program (IEP).
Responsibilities
- Assists in the direct delivery of instruction in a classroom setting with pupils who have moderate to severe impairing conditions.
- Implements both developmental and remedial methods in basic skill areas and content areas.
- Assists staff by implementing lesson plans, reviewing and completing pupil work.
- Participates in parent conferences.
- Keeps relevant records.
- Operates instructional equipment.
- Works Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays: 1:30-5:00 pm and Wednesdays 12:30-5:00 pm.
- Utilizes knowledge of teaching methods, instructional media, test scoring, school organization, and school rules and regulations.
- Works with pupils designated non-severely impaired by an IEP.
- Acts quickly and effectively in emergencies.
- Works with and relates to all individuals within the culturally diverse environment of the school community.
- Develops and maintains effective, courteous communications with pupils, staff, and the public.
Requirements
- 4 years of proven experience and ability in working in education and/or youth programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with best practices in youth development program planning, curriculum development, methods of teaching, and evaluation.
- BA or BS required.
- TB test clearance is mandatory prior to hire.
- Experience working in communities of color with low-income populations.
