About the Role
The Lead Parent Educator is responsible for delivering all components of the Parents as Teachers model, including case management, parenting education, and child development services to low-income families with children from birth to 5 years. This role also supports the PAT supervisor with intake and referral management, family engagement and retention planning, staff training, and data quality.
Responsibilities
- Provide case management in the home, school, and other sites, focusing on developing rapport with parents and children.
- Complete all documentation within program guidelines within 5 business days of a case contact.
- Maintain a caseload of 15-17 families using the PAT model.
- Serve as backup to HOPES funded Parent Educators during extended leave or staff vacancies.
- Act as a role model for other parent educators, ensuring professional documentation and behavior.
- Meet regularly with supervisor to understand assignments and team needs.
- Participate in staff meetings and continuous quality improvement processes.
- Complete annually required competency-based professional development hours.
- Serve as an education resource to Parent Educators regarding data entry, model implementation, screenings, and assessments.
- Work with the PAT Program Supervisor to maintain a referral management system for efficient intake of new families.
- Support the planning and implementation of structured parent-child group events.
- Assist in quality assurance procedures, including file reviews and home visit observations.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled staff and agency meetings and required trainings.
- Represent the program at stakeholder meetings, program presentations, and community building activities.
- Serve as acting supervisor when necessary.
- Undertake other assignments as needed or required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in social work, early childhood development, public health, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of professional work experience as a Parents As Teachers Parent Educator.
- LBSW preferred.
- Experience and ability to work with low-income and culturally diverse families having multiple needs and limited resources.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (verbal and written) strongly preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Ability to maintain detailed and accurate program records and meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills and flexibility.
- Ability to work well under pressure and handle crisis situations.
- Familiarity with computers and strong ability to complete documentation.
- Must have reliable transportation to travel within the assigned region.
- If driving own vehicle, must have a valid driver's license and current vehicle insurance.
- Ability to sit, stand, kneel as necessary to fulfill daily duties.
