About the Role
Storyful is seeking a news journalist to join its editorial team, focusing on finding compelling stories via social media and producing original reporting using verification and open-source intelligence techniques in a fast-paced, breaking news environment.
Responsibilities
- Monitor news feeds for emerging stories and undertake advanced searches using proprietary tools to discover original, eyewitness content.
- Verify images, posts, and videos from the social web.
- Write clean, concise, and accurate copy for publication on the Storyful Newswire and social platforms.
- Contact uploaders and sources involved in stories.
- Work closely with newsroom clients and content creators.
- Work to deadlines and targets.
- Be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends.
- Communicate clearly within the team and to clients and media partners.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the editorial management team.
Requirements
- Proven experience in open-source investigation/social media discovery and verification is an advantage but not essential.
- Either a degree or qualification in journalism/communications, or one year of experience working as a journalist.
- A self-starting journalist who is plugged into current events around the world.
- A fluid, natural communicator who can write clean, simple copy for publication.
- Understanding of social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, 4chan, etc.
- Excellent computer skills, including basic knowledge of spreadsheets and publishing within content management systems, is an advantage but not essential.
- Foreign language skills are strongly favored, but not required.
- Video-editing skills are an advantage, but not mandatory.
