About the Role
The Oliver Wyman Forum seeks an Editorial Director to lead and strategize its thought leadership operations. This role requires a seasoned editorial leader and accomplished writer to develop and place influential content, manage a team, and shape the firm's global thought leadership agenda.
Responsibilities
- Define a strategic agenda of content topics supporting the Forum’s objectives.
- Identify and shape the Forum’s strongest ideas into clear, differentiated points of view.
- Write, edit, and develop op-eds, essays, reports, and articles meeting top-tier journalism standards.
- Collaborate with partners and subject-matter experts to transform research into compelling public arguments.
- Work with communications and media relations to identify placement options and develop pitches.
- Identify and support content partnership efforts to increase distribution of Forum insights.
- Collaborate with research, marketing, design, and other teams to package content innovatively.
- Lead, manage, and develop a team of writers and editors, ensuring clear priorities and high standards.
- Manage the editorial calendar and pipeline, balancing various content types.
- Create efficient editorial processes to improve speed, quality, collaboration, and accountability.
- Lead AI adoption across the editorial function, testing applications and establishing standards.
- Track editorial output and placement performance to refine priorities and standards.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience (15+ preferred) as a journalist, editor, editorial leader, or senior thought leadership professional in a top-tier media, policy, financial, business, and/or professional services environment.
- Significant experience writing, editing, or placing articles, op-eds, essays, or bylined commentary in highly respected external publications.
- Experience working directly with CEOs, senior executives, public figures, or recognized experts to develop publishable arguments in their voice.
- Experience leading or managing writers, editors, contributors, or cross-functional editorial teams.
- Proven ability to work with designers, photographers, and videographers.
Skills
- First-class writing and editing skills; able to create compelling pieces with strong, well-supported arguments.
- Exceptional ability to identify the real argument inside complex research, sharpen the thesis, and craft a clear, timely, persuasive narrative for senior audiences.
- Strong news instincts and deep knowledge of the types of articles, essays, and ideas that appeal to editors.
- Passion for global business issues and big ideas.
- Outstanding interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong project management skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Enthusiasm for AI, with experience using emerging tools to improve editorial quality, accelerate research and production, strengthen collaboration, or create new forms of content and audience engagement.
- Intellectual curiosity and comfort moving across subjects quickly.
- Creativity and a willingness to push boundaries.
- Ideally, a network of thought-leaders, journalists, and editors at major publications.
- Sharp intellect, articulate, and low-ego, with the self-confidence and high standards to inspire excellent work.
