About the Role

Weave builds and deploys bimanual robots for customer homes, equipped with advanced sensors for safety and capability. As a Sensing Engineer, you will manage these sensors from electronics design and signal processing to calibration and production, ensuring their reliability for various robot systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own sensors end-to-end: architecture, electronics, sampling, signal processing, calibration, and production test for the robot's time-series sensing.
  • Design sensing electronics: analog front ends, emitter drive and detector receive chains, mixed-signal circuits, and multi-channel arrays.
  • Write algorithms: filtering, bias and temperature compensation, drift handling, outlier rejection, and detection/estimation layers.
  • Characterize sensors: design fixtures and experiments to map real behavior and create models for algorithms.
  • Build production calibration: per-unit routines for manufacturing lines and field deployment.
  • Detect sensor failure: implement health monitoring with confidence estimates.
  • Evaluate future sensor modalities: prototype candidates and provide data-backed recommendations.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of end-to-end sensor ownership, including hardware and signal processing.
  • Experience carrying at least one sensor from schematic through shipped, calibrated signal.
  • Mixed-signal competence: analog front-end design, signal conditioning, grounding/shielding, and multi-channel layout.
  • Signal processing and estimation fundamentals: filtering, spectral analysis, state estimation, and inverse problems.
  • Physics literacy to understand sensor behavior.
  • Experimental discipline: designing measurements before algorithms and providing claims with error bars.
  • Experience with more than one sensing modality or ability to quickly learn new ones.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols: EtherCAT, CAN/CAN FD, SPI, and I²C.
