About the Role
The Data Engineering Expert is a critical role in the data organization, responsible for providing hands-on Engineering Leadership by leading the design and build of data products that collect and store large datasets and leading the design and build of data platforms that underpin and accelerate the build of data products. They ensure the data product is resilient, accessible, and secure, complying with governance policies. This role involves upskilling staff, leading the implementation of new tools, and taking end-to-end ownership of data products. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of Azure cloud infrastructure, automation, and a security-first mindset, partnering with various stakeholders to drive the build of data products and platforms.
Responsibilities
- Designing and implementing cloud architecture, including capacity planning, infrastructure setup, and network configuration.
- Implementing infrastructure as a Code (IaaC) solutions, preferably Terraform, for automated Azure resource provisioning.
- Building and maintaining robust Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines for automated deployment.
- Integrating security principles throughout the development and deployment lifecycles.
- Leading the build of robust data pipeline templates to automate future data pipeline development.
- Defining and implementing automated processes for performance optimization and failure alerts.
- Defining, leading, and enforcing a documentation system for existing implementations.
- Identifying and implementing engineering best practices and process improvements.
- Partnering with business and technology stakeholders to identify and prioritize data initiatives.
- Partnering with security, governance, and technology stakeholders to implement infrastructure platform code changes.
- Leading and coordinating security and platform updates to the underlying data infrastructure.
- Collaborating with various data delivery teams and fostering a working group to share best practices.
Requirements
- 8-10 years of experience in data engineering with experience in building modern data platforms and data products.
- 5+ years of experience in coding with terraform, python and pyspark.
- At least 3+ years of experience designing and implementing scalable data solutions in Azure.
- Hands-on experience with Azure PaaS services including Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Synapse, Event Hub, API Management (APIM), Azure Key Vault, Azure SQL, and Purview.
- Good understanding of backup, disaster recovery, and data recovery strategy and execution with Azure services.
- Excellent knowledge of Azure infrastructure, including cloud security and networking, and experience in implementing best practices.
- Deep understanding of data modeling, ETL processes, data warehousing concepts, and best practices in data engineering and analytics.
- Excellent project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with experience presenting to large and small audiences.
- Proficiency in English.
