About the Role
As the Engineering Manager for the Cloud FinOps team, you will own delivery across the runtime pipeline, coverage onboarding, and cost-to-customer identity mapping. You will own the contracts that Finance and platform teams depend on, ensuring reproducibility of cloud cost allocation with lineage and closed periods that can be replayed exactly.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of engineers building the platform that allocates Datadog's cloud cost to products and customers.
- Set the operating rhythm across runtime and release, coverage onboarding, and identity and mapping.
- Own the publication contract with Finance, including versioned metrics with effective dates, backfill, and reproducible history.
- Own the metric contracts with platform teams across Engineering.
- Partner with Revenue Engineering on the cost-to-revenue identity join.
- Drive continuous improvement in product and customer cost coverage and accuracy.
- Hold delivery commitments with teams that do not report to you.
- Reduce key-person risk on runtime and compiler architecture by spreading ownership.
- Utilize AI tooling to raise the team's speed and leverage.
Requirements
- Engineering leadership experience managing data platform or data engineering teams.
- Experience building batch and pipeline systems judged on correctness and reproducibility.
- Shipped versioned publication with effective dates, backfill, and reproducible history.
- Experience holding a delivery commitment with a team outside your reporting line.
- Domain experience in metering, usage-based billing, cloud cost, revenue data, or financial data platforms.
- Experience operating without a product manager in the loop on the external half of the job, setting contracts, negotiating boundaries, and driving the roadmap.
- Experience owning systems whose output is audited or closed by Finance (SOX scope, month-end close, revenue recognition).
- Experience with graph datasets or building retrieval-grounded systems where every answer cites its source.
