About the Role
American Packaging Corporation (APC) is seeking a professional to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the Finishing Department, including slitting, DR winding, and pouching. This role involves managing changeovers, mechanical troubleshooting, personnel, and administrative tasks, while contributing to a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate on-the-job training for team members on proper tool and equipment usage.
- Participate in and practice the SPOT Safety Program fundamentals.
- Collect and review shift reports.
- Prepare daily dashboard for review.
- Maintain people schedules for proper staffing and balanced crewing.
- Review production schedules to organize the next 24 hours and establish goals.
- Participate in and generate ideas for department continuous improvement efforts.
- Inventory all Dr. rewinds generated from the previous 24 hours.
- Review location sheets for WIP rolls not located or issued properly.
- Schedule and prioritize Dr. winds by release.
- File and review job jackets for the next 24 hours of production.
- Communicate with operators at shift change regarding job or machine issues.
- Assist in troubleshooting all machines in the Department.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with job orders and specifications.
- Provide direction to utility personnel and prioritize Finishing Department duties.
- Check setups and review upcoming specifications for clarity and accuracy.
- Implement Kanban or other inventory management systems for department supplies.
- Work with Junior Operators and Rewinders for proper cross-training.
- Collaborate with Technical and QA for disposition of material on hold and returned material.
- Complete work orders.
- Review and record department SPOT cards.
- Work various hours on short notice for special projects.
- Actively participate in safety programs and make safety observations.
- Follow plant safety rules, GMPs, and other procedural training requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Previous experience in a Slitter Operator position.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
- Ability to compute waste, footage, pounds, impressions, and production.
- Ability to draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, climb and balance.
- Frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls.
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Manual lifting not to exceed 50 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, distance, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must possess a healthy work ethic.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Must take responsibility for work assigned.
