About the Role
Spangler’s Market is seeking dependable, friendly, and customer-focused individuals to join our team as a Deli Clerk at our West Portal, San Francisco location. We are hiring for either one full-time or one part-time position and are looking for candidates with flexible availability, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Ideal candidates are reliable, organized, and team-oriented, with excellent communication skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced retail environment. You should feel comfortable engaging with customers, answering questions, and offering helpful product recommendations. Responsibilities
- Accurately complete customer orders and assist in the sales of Deli products.
- Answer customer questions, make suggestions regarding various items for sale in the deli, document and listen to customer complaints if management is unavailable, and engage with customers while maintaining productivity and customer service standards.
- Merchandise and promote the deli menu.
- Accurately process customer transactions via the scale equipment.
- Assist in rotating stock, learn and follow the basics of food preparation and sanitation.
- Restock the Deli as needed throughout the day.
- Organize the stockroom.
- Follow opening and closing procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized area for the department.
- Keep the store in a clean, orderly condition during shift and ensure that spills, debris, and hazardous conditions are cleaned and picked up.
- Clean cases and shelves, mop and sweep the sales floor, stockroom, and dairy coolers.
- Operate equipment such as a pallet jack and other backroom equipment safely.
- Protect the safety of oneself, co-workers, and Spangler’s Market patrons at all times, and report safety-related accidents and incidents to management promptly.
- Follow safe lifting procedures.
- Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns during shift and report these incidents to management promptly.
- Advise a management team member if a potential shoplifter is identified.
- Follow all company policies and procedures and maintain open communication with management and the ownership team.
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
- Assist in other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Ability to follow instructions, policies, and procedures.
- Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- Consistently reliable with strong attendance and punctuality.
- Previous grocery or retail experience preferred but not required.
- Experience in deli a plus, but willing to train.
- People with a criminal record are encouraged to apply.
