About the Role

Factory is seeking a Head of Communications to shape the narrative around the company and the shift to agent-native software engineering. This role is central to our mission, owning the communication strategy across all relevant audiences and channels, including enterprise engineering leaders and the broader AI community. You will be responsible for defining our company narrative, managing major announcements, media relations, issue management, and executive coaching. This is a strategic leadership position requiring hands-on execution, with the ability to translate complex technical ideas into compelling stories for diverse audiences. The ideal candidate possesses strong strategic vision, exceptional storytelling skills, a deep understanding of media, and the judgment to navigate ambiguous situations.

Responsibilities

  • Define Factory's communications strategy in partnership with leadership, grounded in market and competitor analysis.
  • Own the narrative engine, transforming product milestones, customer outcomes, and company viewpoints into compelling stories, thought leadership, and campaigns.
  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and media liaison, building relationships with top-tier press and securing coverage.
  • Manage major announcements end-to-end, including product launches, funding rounds, partnerships, and thought leadership initiatives.
  • Lead issues management and crisis communications, developing plans and rapid-response infrastructure.
  • Grow Factory's owned audience and executive visibility across relevant channels.
  • Coach leaders and spokespeople to enhance their impact.
  • Ensure Factory is discoverable and citable across search and AI answer engines.
  • Manage internal and employee communications to maintain company alignment and support recruitment.
  • Build and manage a team and agency partners as the workload increases.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in communications at high-growth technology companies, including senior leadership roles.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with outstanding storytelling ability and editorial judgment.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into accessible narratives for diverse audiences.
  • Deep, hands-on media relations experience with an established network of top-tier press and the ability to build new relationships.
  • Strong understanding of traditional and new media, how ideas spread, and modern search and AI answer-engine dynamics.
  • Proven experience in issues management and crisis communications in high-stakes situations.
  • Proficiency with modern communications, measurement, and analytics tools.
  • Comfort operating both strategically and hands-on in a lean function.
  • High agency, low ego, and a strong bias for action.
  • Excellent judgment, epistemic humility, and a curiosity for understanding technology.
