About the Role

Blank Street is seeking a Global Tax Manager to build its tax function from the ground up. This role will own all indirect tax workstreams across the US and UK, revamp tax processes across all sales channels, and lead tax aspects of new market entries. Additionally, the role will support global transfer pricing, manage direct tax compliance with external accountants, and prepare ancillary returns in-house. This is a high-impact role for a technically rigorous individual who wants to be the go-to tax resource and develop the function.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all indirect tax workstreams across US multi-state sales and use tax and UK VAT, owning calculations, filings, remittances, reconciliations, and exemption management.
  • Revamp and optimize indirect tax processes across in-store, app, subscriptions, and e-commerce sales channels.
  • Own the tax workstream for new market entries, including research, technical memos, registrations, and implementation.
  • Support and drive global transfer pricing initiatives, including intercompany arrangements, policy design, and documentation.
  • Oversee direct tax filings prepared by external accountants, managing timelines, review, and quality.
  • Support income tax provision calculations and cash tax forecasting.
  • Prepare ancillary returns, forms, and studies in-house, such as US R&D tax credit studies and UK capital allowance studies.
  • Own the global tax calendar, including registrations, payments, extensions, and filings.
  • Monitor nexus, permanent establishment, and registration thresholds to proactively identify and remediate exposures.
  • Serve as the point of contact for tax audits, notices, and authority inquiries.
  • Develop, document, and maintain tax policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Accounting, Product, and Digital teams, as well as external advisors.
  • Build internal capabilities, systems, and documentation to transition core tax filings in-house over time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance, Tax, or a related field.
  • CPA/ACA, EA, CTA, or equivalent qualification strongly preferred.
  • 6+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally combining public accounting with an in-house role in a multi-entity or fast-growth environment.
  • Deep indirect tax expertise across US multi-state sales and use tax and UK VAT.
  • Working knowledge of direct tax and transfer pricing.
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Experience with tax engines, POS platforms, and ERP systems.
  • Strong Excel skills for reconciliations and data analysis.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex tax matters to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently, own deliverables end-to-end, and proactively escalate risks.
  • Team-first, detail-oriented mindset with an understanding of discretion, accuracy, and collaboration.
