About the Role
Lead risk management activities at strategic, programme, or project level across multiple clients. Take ownership of key accounts, influence commercial outcomes, mentor junior staff, drive internal initiatives, and build the team's profile internally and externally.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage risk management procedures and processes for clients.
- Liaise, engage, and communicate with key stakeholders, including senior management, in the risk management process.
- Lead and develop teams in best practices, establishing a pro-active risk management culture.
- Serve as a point of contact for risk-related matters and promote risk management awareness, training, and application.
- Present and lead confidently in client workshops and meetings.
- Ensure high-quality risk information is obtained and maintained in dedicated risk management platforms.
- Work with project teams to produce QRAs (QCRA and QSRA) and use specialist software for risk modeling.
- Analyze large volumes of data to identify patterns, trends, and potential risks.
- Develop and produce relevant risk reporting for stakeholders to support decision-making.
- Update clients on risk status, highlighting potential impacts on cost or timelines.
- Provide unique risk management insights, including emerging risks, across client projects.
- Mentor and develop Risk Analysts and Risk Managers, offering career guidance and feedback.
- Contribute to team upskilling through knowledge sharing, training sessions, and technical peer reviews.
- Support resource planning and delivery oversight across multiple commissions.
- Play a leading role in bids and proposals, shaping win themes, writing content, and participating in presentations.
- Contribute to service development initiatives, including best practice frameworks, templates, toolkits, and delivery models.
- Represent the Risk Management service line at events, conferences, or thought leadership forums.
- Bring external market insight and policy developments into project delivery and service improvement.
Requirements
- In-depth understanding of risk management and quantitative risk management within the project structure.
- Forward-thinking individual who drives collaboration and communication.
- Experience in client management.
- Appetite to keep learning and maintain risk management skillset.
- Degree qualified, preferably in mathematics or a construction-related discipline.
- Chartered or specialist risk qualification (e.g., IRM Cert) and membership to a risk professional body (e.g., IRM, APM).
- Experience in PMO within risk and control or project management.
- Demonstrable experience in managing risk registers, facilitating risk workshops, supporting qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, and reporting risk exposure across complex projects.
- Experience working on large complex engineering projects in a risk management role, ideally within the nuclear, energy, or utility sectors.
- Excellent understanding of schedule management, estimating, and cost management principles.
- Excellent data analysis and technical skills.
- Extensive experience using risk management software such as Safran, ARM, Acumen.
- Proficient in producing QRAs (QCRA and QSRA).
- Strong user of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Previous experience within a consultancy environment is desirable.
- Proven ability to build and manage client relationships at a senior level.
- Demonstrated experience in client presentations.
- Ability to take initiative and proactively engage and lead teams.
- Experience in mentoring, supporting, and developing junior colleagues.
- Strong written, verbal, listening, and presentation skills.
- Ability to deliver high-quality work within challenging timeframes.
