About the Role
We are seeking a Project Cost Consultant to support business growth and deliver world-class service to a diverse client base. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on high-profile infrastructure projects, with a focus on the Energy sector, within a dynamic cost team. The ideal candidate will have experience with large-scale infrastructure projects, client-facing responsibilities, and a strong ability to collaborate and communicate effectively.
Responsibilities
- Manage pre and post-contract activities, including procurements and project finances.
- Undertake estimates and ensure projects are delivered within budget constraints.
- Develop specialist knowledge and manage project components.
- Support team members and contribute to business growth through wider firm initiatives.
- Manage procurements and understand core procurement and contract options.
- Take market soundings, establish potential supply chains, report results, and develop procurement strategy inputs.
- Develop and prepare a full suite of tender documents.
- Lead tender evaluation processes, including reviewing tender returns, chairing evaluation meetings, and drafting Tender Reports.
- Support negotiation and collation of contract documents with Client teams and Contractors.
- Engage with stakeholders and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Write, produce, and present reports using relevant software.
- Monitor construction budgets, prepare and present detailed cost reports, cashflow forecasts, and financial analysis.
- Manage post-contract change control, preferably using NEC contracts.
- Assess completed works for payment applications.
- Negotiate and prepare final accounts.
- Identify and assess potential construction project risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Provide proactive advice on risk-related issues to avoid disputes and delays.
- Use CostX as a measurement tool.
- Conduct accurate and detailed cost estimates, including measurement and consideration of all project factors.
- Prepare and deliver cost plans.
- Analyze and evaluate the potential cost impact of design changes.
- Undertake market testing of costs, liaising with specialist subcontractors and suppliers.
- Develop plans to analyze and bridge gaps from benchmarking exercises.
- Undertake detailed reconciliations tracking cost movement from stage to stage.
Requirements
- Degree qualified.
- MRICS preferred, but not essential; training will be supported.
- Pre and post-contract experience.
- Experience working under construction contract terms and conditions, preferably NEC.
- Previous experience within a consultancy environment is desirable but not essential.
- Experience on large scale infrastructure projects, ideally within the energy and utility sector.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- A strategic thinker with broad problem-solving skills.
- Experience working in a client-focused environment with a commitment to excellent client service.
- Demonstrated understanding of market issues and events and their impact.
- Positive attitude with a willingness to get involved in business-wide initiatives.
- Previous experience with Microsoft platforms.
- Ability to work closely with internal teams, the client, and project teams for effective communication and coordination.
