About the Role
This role provides first-class, commercial, and risk-appropriate legal advice to HR in EMEA, interacting daily with HR generalists and country HR partners across various EMEA jurisdictions. The position requires close liaison with other control functions and internal/external lawyers, building strong relationships with HR and LOB clients to identify practical legal solutions and make recommendations.
Responsibilities
- Manage and advise on legal, reputational, and regulatory risks throughout the employment lifecycle, adhering to the bank's risk framework and culture.
- Advise on relevant legal and regulatory changes, assisting with their rollout and implementation.
- Act as a strategic partner to the business, helping to balance risk and reward responsibly.
- Manage queries from HR, the business, Compliance, Risk, and Audit on a variety of issues.
- Collaborate closely with the EMEA HR Legal team and other lawyers, including regulatory lawyers.
- Provide regular training to HR on employment law matters, FAQs, and HR legal documents.
- Engage and manage outside counsel cost-efficiently.
- Offer general legal support to the business, including procuring appropriate regulatory advice.
- Provide advice on HR aspects of data privacy issues.
- Advise on HR elements of M&A activity, outsourcing, and other transactional projects.
Requirements
- In-house employment lawyer with experience in employment laws and regulations in England and across the EMEA region.
- Strong post-qualification experience.
- Ability to manage responsibilities across multiple jurisdictions and time zones, handling a high volume of work and clients in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, both verbally and in writing, adapting to various audiences.
- Ability to succeed in a global, matrixed organization.
- Well-grounded in principles of common law, employment law, and contract law.
- Proficient in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
