About the Role
Ultra builds industrial AI robots that automate mission-critical warehouse labor. We are looking for a Supply Chain & Procurement Lead to own how parts are sourced, bought, and flow as we scale robot production. You will build and manage supplier relationships, streamline ordering, ensure timely delivery of parts, and maintain high quality standards. The role emphasizes a software-forward approach, using tooling and AI agents to manage repetitive tasks, allowing humans to focus on judgment, relationships, and exceptions.
Responsibilities
- Build and manage vendor relationships
- Find, vet, and set up new supplier and contract-manufacturer relationships
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and lead times
- Develop and deepen existing supplier relationships
- Travel to China and other destinations to meet suppliers
- Own ordering, purchasing, and planning
- Place purchase orders and track them
- Run RFQs and manage NPI and BOM changes
- Own inventory accuracy and demand/forecasting signals
- Build purchasing workflows, approvals, and PO tracking tooling
- Manage lead times and costs against targets
- Proactively flag and mitigate supply risk
- Support inbound logistics
- Book transport for inbound parts
- Track shipment status and get ahead of delays
- Coordinate international shipping, imports, and customs
- Drive supplier quality control
- Set and enforce quality expectations with suppliers
- Track supplier quality performance and drive corrective action
- Partner with the hardware team on incoming inspection criteria
Requirements
- Highly operational and detail-oriented
- An owner, not an executor
- Software-forward approach
- Scrappy, resourceful, and energized by fast-paced, high-autonomy environments
- Strong relationship-builder
- Comfortable negotiating and working across cultures and time zones
- Thinks in cost, speed, and reliability
- 5+ years owning procurement, sourcing, and/or supply chain in a hardware or manufacturing environment
- Strong supplier management skills
- Track record of making ordering and purchasing run smoothly
- Comfort with inventory management and demand/forecasting
- Familiarity with inbound logistics
- Experience holding suppliers to a quality standard
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally, including to China
- Bonus: experience with contract manufacturing or scaling sourcing beyond in-house production
- Bonus: Mandarin or other relevant language skills
