About the Role
RAM Iron & Metal is seeking a Scrap Material Handler to operate heavy equipment machinery safely and effectively. This role involves unloading, sorting, and loading materials, as well as feeding materials to a bailer and maintaining yard organization.
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment scrap handlers in a safe and effective manner.
- Operate a crane with the grapple/magnet attachment.
- Conduct a daily pre and post inspection of equipment and record the results.
- Load and offload company and customer vehicles.
- Use hand signals and CB radio for communication.
- Sort scrap materials into specific grades.
- Verify the quality of ferrous and non-ferrous materials and feed them into the bailer.
- Downsize material using the grapple.
- Move material throughout the yard, including stocking bundles.
- Organize stockpiles of material within the yard.
- Clean roadways and paths using a magnet device.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Minimum two (2) years of experience operating a crane with a grapple/magnet attachment.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate effectively in English.
- Knowledge of metals is an asset.
- Heavy Equipment Operator certificate is an asset.
- Experience working in metal recycling is an asset.
