About the Role

BDO is seeking energetic self-starters who can think and act like entrepreneurs. The Tax Intern, Core Tax Services will utilize their educational background and organizational skills to prepare returns and extensions under supervision, gaining hands-on experience and building career relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures clients comply with authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
  • Ensures compliance with Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual.
  • Uses referencing systems and workpapers that tie to the return.
  • Completes tasks and organizes files to minimize rework.
  • Ensures data collection for filing requirements.
  • Takes initiative on impending due dates and engagement letters.
  • Works with tax software to complete simple tax returns for review.
  • Performs quarterly estimates and prepares extensions.
  • Assists with responses to IRS notices.
  • Assists in the projection of year-end filings.
  • Assists with components of income tax provisions.
  • Assists in developing, recommending, and implementing tax-saving methods.
  • Operates online research tools to gather pertinent tax information.
  • Monitors tax law and client factual developments.
  • Communicates potential client impacts of developments to personnel.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting or other relevant field.
  • Actively pursuing school credits to become a CPA.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Seeks advice of superiors regarding compliance issues.
  • Ability to prepare simple tax returns.
