About the Role

The Trade Compliance Specialist III handles moderate-to-high complexity trade compliance matters, including advanced classifications, regulatory interpretation, issue resolution, and audit support. This role partners closely with various internal teams and provides guidance to junior specialists. The position does not have formal people-management responsibility.

Responsibilities

• Support all inbound and outbound shipment regulations.
• Support Nidec Traction business units with duty reduction procedures and qualification of origin for Free Trade Agreements.
• Manage day-to-day trade compliance activities and reporting costs.
• Perform audits on import and export activity to ensure accuracy, including post-entry adjustments.
• Measure the performance of trade activities and develop strategies to minimize risk.
• Provide advice and guidance on all trade compliance related issues.
• Provide guidance and advice regarding interpretation of US Import/Export regulations.
• Perform Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and Special Trade Program (STP) eligibility and verification.
• Conduct import compliance and operational assessments, audits, and reviews including classification, valuation, and Other Government Agencies requirements or regulations.
• Work and develop compliance procedures for operational trade and compliance.
• Develop import/export compliance forms, tools, templates, and performance reports.
• Create KPIs for management and constantly improve procedures and activities to reduce duties and taxes for all North America business units.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders, suppliers, logistics, transportation companies, customs brokers, and government departments.
• Implement best practice trade principles, policies, and processes across the organization.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and agreed routing guides.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and identify inefficiencies and cost optimization opportunities.
• Provide advice and guidance on all logistics issues and on all activities which could have an impact on duties, taxes and foreign trade regulations.
• Develop and maintain strong partnerships with all Nidec trade compliance departments, other Nidec Traction departments and externally.
• Collaborate and innovate cross-functionally.

Requirements

• Must be familiar with trade, customs and commerce laws of North America.
• Must have exceptional communication skills, verbal and written.
• Proven ability to apply regulatory requirements to business transactions and to guide and help the business units to implement such requirements.
• Experience in performing process analysis and design, identifying gaps, making appropriate recommendations, and implementing redesigned processes.
• Solid project management experience and ability to deliver quality work products with aggressive deadlines.
• Knowledge of international shipping regulations, certifications and programs, AEO, CTPAT, among others.
• Knowledge of the various customs processes and import and export procedures and ensure compliance with US-CAN and foreign government laws.
• Ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
