About the Role
Vantage is seeking a mid-level Database Administrator experienced in installing, upgrading, and patching database servers and software across Windows and Linux environments. This role involves managing cloud-based database solutions, writing queries, developing database objects, tuning queries, and ensuring data protection and high-availability. The position also includes identifying opportunities for process improvement in data migrations and automation.
Responsibilities
- Install, patch, upgrade and manage Microsoft SQL Server databases.
- Administer Ubuntu Linux servers.
- Manage server disk space capacity by adding storage, archiving data, and migrating data.
- Ensure regular database backups and conduct usability testing.
- Provide tables, views, stored procedures, and functions for reporting software and applications.
- Manage database level partitioning.
- Assist users with data requests and queries, and provide guidance on query tuning.
- Manage cloud database resources and associated costs.
- Manage servers using database or server telemetry products.
- Write, update, and manage documentation on the database environment.
- Add, update, and remove users from database servers.
- Migrate data between different database platforms (e.g., MySQL to PostgreSQL).
- Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency server issues.
Requirements
- Fluent English language skills, both spoken and written.
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (Computer Information Systems/Computer Science) or Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 2-4 years of production database administration experience with Microsoft SQL Server.
- 1-3 years of production Linux server experience.
- Proven to be highly accurate and thorough in all tasks.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Logical process thinking.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to contribute quickly.
- Genuine drive and motivation with a “can do” attitude.
- Results-driven and committed to the future growth of Vantage, customer success, and career growth.
- Travel is expected to be less than 5%, but may increase over time.
