About the Role
This role involves ordering, issuing, and tracking inventory of essential equipment and supplies for police operations, including duty gear, firearms, radios, and technology. The position also assists with training and orientation for junior staff.
Responsibilities
- Maintains inventory of duty gear, firearms, radios, body armor, badges, body cams, cell phones, laptops, and other equipment.
- Orders, maintains, and issues equipment to officers and staff.
- Ensures compliance with all department, City, State, and Federal regulations for firearms.
- Manages the department's participation in the Federal 10-33 program, including yearly physical audits.
- Maintains knowledge of department firearm types, safety, and recall concerns.
- Issues, revokes, updates, and manages security rights for all SLCPD properties identification cards.
- Manages and deploys department Body Worn Cameras.
- Orders, issues, and inventories all Police Badges and rank insignia.
- Tracks employee purchases and lost or stolen badges, ensuring proper protocol and reporting.
- Monitors and maintains department billing, service, and inventory for cell phones and air cards.
- Troubleshoots equipment.
- Arranges for the service, repair, and maintenance of department equipment.
- Performs regular digital and physical inventories of equipment.
- Coordinates with the Finance Department for disposal, trade, or sale of equipment.
- Manages the Department's Quartermaster Uniform system.
- Maintains Voucher website items.
- Researches, recommends, and maintains knowledge of vendor agreements and contracts.
- Addresses complaints from personnel and vendors regarding gear, weapons, uniforms, radios, cellular, and technology systems.
- Advises departments of changes and may make recommendations for approval.
- Maintains systems for Police inventory, body cameras, cellular phones, air cards, Tasers, uniforms, access cards, fleet, and evidence card access rights.
- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Two years performing as a Quartermaster Technician (for Senior role).
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent and two years of work experience with computer hardware/software, personal computers, filing systems, word processing, spreadsheets, or other closely related field (for Technician role).
- Possession of a valid driver's license and/or driving privilege card.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision, be self-motivated, have self-initiative, be organized and able to prioritize tasks.
- Ability to understand and follow general work instructions and comply with established policies and procedures.
- Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of firearms safety.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain composure and relate well with co-workers and the general public.
