About the Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a physician-scientist to join our group as a Principal Scientist (Clinical Director) in Translational Medicine/Early Clinical Development within the Infectious Diseases Therapeutic Area. Translational Medicine is responsible for the early clinical development of novel therapeutics, collaborating closely with discovery scientists and late-stage clinical researchers. The Infectious Diseases Therapeutic Area focuses on the translational and clinical development of anti-infectives for both treatment and prophylaxis indications. We seek a highly qualified individual with a strong background in basic and/or clinical translational research and a desire to work collaboratively across therapeutic areas and development stages.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to novel target identification by partnering with Discovery Sciences to provide a clinical perspective and execute studies evaluating target relevance to human disease.
- Lead early clinical development strategy from preclinical through Phase 1 (safety, tolerability, PK/PD) and Phase 2 (Proof-of-Concept) studies.
- Develop biomarker strategies with cross-functional teams to advance therapeutics from First-in-Human studies through clinical Proof-of-Concept, including experimental medicine studies.
- Develop and execute clinical pharmacology strategies to support later development stages through worldwide regulatory applications.
- Work with basic science teams, providing clinical expertise for target identification and validation, including designing preclinical and clinical experiments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (discovery scientists, pharmacologists, toxicologists) to advance novel therapeutics from preclinical to clinical development.
- Lead the design and execution of early clinical development strategy in collaboration with internal and external staff and scientists.
- Develop and execute clinical pharmacology studies for all phases of development, including formulation changes, drug-drug interactions, and special populations.
- Provide early phase/clinical pharmacology support for programs through the regulatory filing process.
- Develop and execute studies to validate clinical biomarkers, including various sampling methods and response assessments.
- Provide clinical and scientific expertise to assess internal and external partnership opportunities.
- Engage with the scientific community through consultations, publications, and conference presentations.
- Work broadly with key functions across global research sites.
