About the Role
Huckleberry House provides youth experiencing instability with temporary shelter, therapy, case management, and linkage to additional services. This role involves direct supervision of youth, crisis counseling, and supporting case management activities to foster a safe and empowering environment for healing and personal growth.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct supervision of youth in the shelter, on outings, and during meetings/appointments.
- Conduct intake assessments with youth and engage with parents, legal guardians, and other involved adults.
- Provide crisis counseling for clients and/or their families via in-person or phone.
- Support phone coverage, including answering calls and responding to crisis, business, information, and referral inquiries.
- Assist with case management tasks, including referrals and collaboration with community partners and clinicians.
- Participate in a minimum of one overnight shift per week.
- Support with emergency shift coverage when necessary.
- Supervise clients at all times in alignment with their case plan and daily schedule, including group time, homework, meals, phone time, and bedtime preparation.
- Supervise clients during awake overnight shifts, ensuring compliance with licensing regulations.
- Ensure all community agreements are upheld by clients and staff for client safety.
- Educate clients on tools, themes, and resources to improve life skills, coping mechanisms, and case plan goal achievement.
- Reinforce and model boundaries and conflict resolution.
- Conduct client check-ins as needed or requested.
- Support the creation, planning, and facilitation of client activities aligned with their case plan.
- Create a safe environment for youth to explore healing, personal growth, and self-advocacy.
- Support household maintenance, including light cleaning and organization.
- Complete the Overnight Checklist during awake overnight shifts.
- Notify management of facility repairs and assist with coordinating arrangements.
- Ensure all Community Care Licensing regulations are followed.
- Attend required meetings, including daily client review, weekly staff meetings, and supervision check-ins.
Requirements
- Previous experience engaging with youth and their families in a setting promoting youth advocacy, case management, youth-centered services, and/or crisis services.
- Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and an awake overnight shift.
- Possess a valid CA driver's license and a driving history that allows enrollment into the Agencies auto policy.
- Historically demonstrated ability to work as part of a team.
- Highly organized, creative, and innovative.
- Must pass Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background checks.
- Candidates with backgrounds including items on the non-exemptible crimes list will not be eligible.
- Must be at least twenty-one years of age as of the beginning of the assignment.
- Must be able to make an 11-month commitment.
- Must be either U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
