About the Role
Performs maintenance within the facility, routine and on-demand services on grounds and non-technical facility components. Ensures work is performed in accordance with established processes and complies with contractual, environmental, health, safety, and fire protection requirements.
Responsibilities
- Maintains facility grounds and non-technical facility components (i.e. walls, floors, etc.)
- Performs work in accordance to established policy, processes and practices
- Complies with all internal and external requirements including environmental, health and safety and fire protection
- Performs regular facility, grounds and building fabric maintenance and inspections
- Provides observations about facility, grounds and non-technical component conditions and deficiencies, and provides suggestions for enhancements and repair
- Responds to routine and on-demand service requests
- Performs maintenance primarily on parking levels, roads and grounds and terraces
- Records event rectification data within the work order system, ensuring work meets quality and contract response requirements
- Receives, tracks, monitors and reports status of maintenance work within the service maintenance management database
- Initiates documents to obtain formal approval of work required
- Assists in the development and implementation of a Landscape / Roads and Grounds preventative maintenance program
- Ensures that deficiencies are identified, recorded and escalated, and that related documentation is maintained
- Participates in and assists with facility-related projects
- Ensures work is performed in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements
- Maintains all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required
- Assists in enhancing customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations
- Completes all other on-demand or ad hoc duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be able and willing to work shifts, be available for on-call / standby and emergency call-outs
- Must be willing to wear personal protective equipment
- Must be able to tolerate and perform in all seasonal conditions over extended periods
- Must be able to competently operate various role-related tools and equipment (deck mower, line trimmer, etc.)
- Must be comfortable within a hospital setting
- Must meet enhanced security clearance requirements
Skills
- Grounds operations and maintenance work experience
- Ability to adhere and to properly execute processes and practices relating to Grounds operations and maintenance
- Ability to maintain facility grounds, and non-technical facility components with the highest degree of care
- Ability to provide observation about facility conditions and deficiencies, and to provide suggestions for enhancements
- Ability to research, learn and gain greater proficiency in applying skill sets on-the-job – fire, life / safety, roads and grounds safety, and building codes and standards
- Strong environmental, health and safety mindset
- Ability to perform work in a safe manner
- Strong client-service orientation with a high sense of urgency
- Effective communication skills for data relay, exchange, feedback, and clarification

- Some trades-related training preferred
- Certified Horticulturist or Landscape Technician preferred
