About the Role

The Small Business Account Manager is accountable for managing relationships with high credit risk Business Credit Members. The primary objective is to build rapport, understand issues driving poor financial performance, and implement action plans to improve performance or minimize credit losses. The role also involves recommending credit applications, managing loan loss provisions, and completing government guarantee claims when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Manage relationships and partner with Members and insolvency professionals, providing excellent service and professionalism.
  • Develop and implement strategies to return high-risk loans to performing status or minimize credit losses.
  • Stay informed about market and regulatory changes to incorporate into credit recovery strategies.
  • Support monthly reporting as required under Board Credit Management policy for regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain Watch List summary reporting with action plans and key dates to reduce exposure.
  • Manage Third Party Demands.
  • Provide stewardship to the Small Business lending portfolio through regular reviews of credit quality.
  • Enhance the profile of the Small Business Credit team through open communication.
  • Create efficiency in the credit approval process through streamlined applications and automation.
  • Foster a culture of shared, proactive risk management with Delivery partners.
  • Build strong relationships with specialist legal, accountants, and Trustees to implement insolvency strategy.
  • Achieve satisfactory audit results on external and internal reviews and act on recommendations.

Requirements

  • Relationship Management experience with Members.
  • Experience as a Small Business or Commercial Banking Relationship Manager.
  • Ability to distill important information and communicate concisely, both verbally and in writing, tailored to the audience.
  • Understanding of estate lending (Residential income producing asset types).
  • Understanding of Small Business operating businesses and working capital needs.
  • Insolvency / workout experience and ability to build relationships with insolvency professionals.
  • Strong understanding of small business structures.
  • Excellent analytical skills in financial statements, cash flow mechanics, and business plans.
  • Sound understanding of small business lending security documentation, including work-out techniques and remedies.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to initiate action to achieve results and meet deadlines.
  • Drive and determination.
  • Time management skills and ability to move credit requests forward under pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer competency (Word/Excel/Outlook).
  • Comfort learning and adopting new digital tools, with an openness to using AI-enabled technology.
  • Confidence and willingness to learn and integrate AI and emerging technologies into new ways of working.
  • Critical Thinking: Ability to analyze, evaluate and interpret information and apply logic and problem-solving.

Experience Level

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in Small Business Credit underwriting, relationship management and risk management in a financial services environment.

Education Level

  • University Degree in Business, Finance, or related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary/Compensations

  • CAD $68,800.00 to $103,200.00 annually.
